Biography of Brendan McCarthy

Originally from Rathfarnham in Dublin but very happily relocated in Waterford, Brendan is a classically trained tenor with many years experience on both stage and screen. He studied singing with Paul Deegan at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and spent 12 years as a prominent member of one of Ireland's premier professional musical ensembles, the Band of An Garda Síochána. Currently under the tutelage of Valerie Leahy at the Waterford College of Music, he also studied classical guitar at the College of Music in Dublin.

Awards:

  • Joseph Robinson Memorial Prize.
  • Distinction in the National Music Prize for Singing.
  • Senior Vocal category in the Waterford Feis 2011.
  • Second place in the Fintan O'Carroll Cup 2011.
  • Silver and Bronze Recital Medals (Royal Irish Academy of Music).
  • High Achiever's Award (RIAM) 2011.

  • The Rose of Tralee (1998 & 2003);
  • All-Ireland Hurling and Football Finals
  • Ireland vs. USA/Australia (IRFU)
  • Waterford Massed Band Concerts 2010-11.
  • Performances in the National Concert Hall, the Odyssey Arena and Waterfront Halls in Belfast, and in venues the length and breadth of the country.
